I went to school with Peter and remember him well. He was living in the police barracks in Hyde Park, where his father was stationed. I can't imagine that this individual police force was particularly well equipped to deal with their public duties as, by their misfortune, they happened to be the innocent victims of Peter's first business venture. Peter, for the not inconsiderable sum of 10 shillings (if I remember correctly), would supply police truncheons to any number of his schoolmates who could pay for them. What on earth we needed them for I have no idea, but it's comforting to know that we could have put down a small riot should the need have arisen.
